Baghouse

Diamond Wire Spring is an expert in the design and manufacturing of custom wire springs for dust collector equipment applications including the baghouse spring.

baghouse spring is used to provide tension and structural support for the fabric filter bags within a baghouse dust collector.

Function and Purpose

  • Tensioning: In reverse air and some shaker-style baghouses, the bags are installed from the clean air side and suspended in the dirty air plenum. The spring is attached to the top of the filter bag assembly to hold the fabric bag taut. Proper tensioning is crucial to prevent the bag from sagging or folding, which can lead to poor airflow, dust accumulation in unintended areas, and premature bag failure.
  • Support during Cleaning: During the cleaning cycle in reverse air systems, a gentle flow of air in the opposite direction partially collapses the bag to dislodge the accumulated “dust cake”. The spring allows the bag to flex and move, helping to release the dust effectively, while also working in conjunction with anti-collapse rings to ensure the bag does not collapse completely or “pancake”.
  • Maintaining Shape: In other baghouse designs, such as pulse jet systems, rigid metal cages are used inside the bags to provide internal support and prevent them from collapsing under the suction of the fan. Springs or similar assemblies are used in these cases to properly seal and secure the cage/bag assembly to the tube sheet (the divider between the clean and dirty air sections) and maintain the necessary tension to keep the bag in its optimal operational shape.

Types and Materials

Baghouse springs are available in various designs, Diamond Wire Spring produces both conical and linear style springs using Chrome Silicon or Stainless Steel (302 and/or 17-7)
