Double Torsion spring

Trailer Ramp Springs

Diamond Wire Spring is a custom manufacturer of wire springs for trailer equipment applications including the ramp spring.

There are two types of trailer ramp springs:

Hinge-mounted: These are the most common type, with a pair fitting onto a horizontal shaft at each end of the ramp’s hinge point. A double torsion springs are often used for heavier ramps.

Side-mounted: These springs are attached to the side of the trailer and the side of the ramp.  This system is often used on horse trailers or toy haulers.

Key benefits

  • Makes lifting the ramp easier.
  • Controlled movement reduces the risk of accidents and injuries from a falling or slamming ramp.
  • Reduces stress on the ramp and its hinges, potentially leading to fewer repairs and a longer lifespan.
  • Helps keep the ramp stable while it is open.

Choosing and installing a spring

You’ll need to know the ramp’s weight, length, and the shaft’s diameter to select the correct spring.  Ensure the spring’s inner diameter is large enough for the shaft, and the outer diameter fits within the available space.  Proper installation is crucial for safety.

  • Utility trailers: Used for general purposes, including hauling equipment or supplies.
  • Equipment trailers: Designed to transport equipment like ATVs, construction tools, or small machinery.
  • Landscaping trailers: Used by landscaping professionals for hauling equipment and materials.
  • Agricultural trailers: Utilized on farms for transporting equipment and livestock.
